Before WIRC was created, each residence building was governed by its own council composed of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Athletic Representative and General Members. They also had their own independent bank accounts. In 2000, Jimmy Bursaw and Malcolm Dales created the Constitution and unified the various building councils into one council which became the Windsor Inter-Residence Council, or WIRC as it is known today. The newly reorganized and elected representatives quickly began to improve residence life, and give residence students a unified voice on campus.
In 2000, the WIRC sent its first delegation to GLACURH (Great Lakes Affiliation of College and University Residence Halls) and in 2002, WIRC made the decision endorse non-alcoholic events in residence. In 2006, WIRC introduced a new position to the executive. The Director of Student Affairs helps further WIRC’s role as student advocates in residence.
WIRC continues to promote student rights in residence and maintain their roles as advocates and providers of high quality programming in residence.
